How to use the wool and what to do with just one ball?We are often told, our yarns were beautiful but people don't know what to do with it (except putting it in a showcase and stroking it daily). So we want to produce release and show you some use!Just a ball?!?Many people ask us, why we don't spin more of one kind of yarn and don't know what to make of a yarn. First of all, unlike commercial yarn ours does not weight just 25 or 50 gr. They are consderably heavier, last but not least due to the elements, some may contain. Often they're weighing 100 gr and more. That may not be enough for a sweater but you can still do a lot with it! We don't spin that much, because we love variety and more than often are too impatient, so we start with a new idea, the moment the old one's finished. Sometimes we lack the ingredients it takes to make more than a ball (and you know, getting something delivered can take aeons...). More on demand! We'd love to produce more of one yarn if we have all the necessary ingredients. But even in this unlikely case, we still can spin something similar. So if you need more yarn for a project than you can currently purchase just tell us and we'll do our best! Here are two yarns, that have been reproduced:
In this case, Teetante had to dye the pink yarn for herself on the right pic.
For the right pic version of the warp speed yarn, Teetante wasn't able to card the fiber. But even if we spin yarn of the same kind - every skeins will always be unique. This is the nature of handcraft. We do not reproduce 100 %. They are different in thread size and length and every centimetre is definitely one-of-a-kind. Just a ball!Even with a middle sized skein you have many possibilities. There are a lot of accessoires and awesome odds and ends, that can be made.

There are a lot of other projects, that can be done with just one skein, i.e. beanies, headbands, gloves, little bags, belts, tea cosies etc. Artyarn in combination with conventional yarnFor bigger projects, often one artistic yarn is more than enough if you mix it with average yarn. You can highlight the structure of the art yarn, if you put it in special places, e.g. on the edge of a blanket or a beanie.
![]() Teetante's strawberry bag: ca. 90 m/70 g/10 wpi strawberry yarn and ca. 90 g white handspun merino. Strawberries and flowers were spun into the yarn. The strawberries are hand-knitted and stuffed, the flowers hand-crocheted. The strawberry yarn was used for the cover and the strap. The strap was partly knitted in striped with white merino yarn. The latter was also crocheted into the 8 Granny Squares, that form the front and the back of the bag. The size is ca. 22 x 22 cm, the strap measures ca. 1,10 m. The bag is closed by a strawberry, that can be put through a loop on the cover.
What needles for what yarn? After you have figured out how much yarn you'll need, you have to find out how you want to produce your project. The most common ways are knitting or crocheting. The needle size goes by the yarn size. But what about special and handmade yarn? We post a wpi. Wpi is "wraps per inch" - how often can you wrap one yarn in an inch (2,54 cm)? Thin yarn has more, thick yarn less wpi. If a yarn is spun thick'n'thin, we use an average. You can find an overview, what size to use on what yarn here. This of course is just guide. Feel free to use whatever you feel comfortable with. Experiment with different needle sizes on different wpi! Which pattern? Not the pattern makes the effect but the yarn! So: the simpler, the better. A complicated pattern would be lost anyway in an irregular yarn. And the best thing: they don't take long and a suitable for beginners! |
